OMG I'm getting so confused?

i've been using pure ammonia to cycle my tank and i got the ammonia to about 3ppm. I tested for nitrites and the readings are 0ppm. I have a 20 gallon tank and add 10 drops of ammonia every night. Some people say continue adding this amount until u see a nitrite spike and some say don't add anymore ammonia when it gets to 3-4ppm and let it drop to 0ppm then cut the amount of drops of ammonia in half to get a nitrite spike. OMG Im so confused who do i listen to! I've been trying to cycle my (Bleep) tank for like 2 months now using so many methods and when finally one seems to work, i get stuck and don't know who to listen to.....
